You have likely heard somewhere that Stressed spelt backwards is Desserts…and it is! However, that does not mean that if you are stressed you can eat all the desserts you want. We need to be healthy and if we use desserts to help our stress, we will feel more stressed, won’t we? So, what should you do if you are feeling a moment of stress or anxiety? Here are 10 things to do now for quick stress relief.
– Take a break. Too many working professionals do not take enough breaks. You need them so take 10 mins to yourself every couple of hours
– Take a breath. Try deep breathing. Breathe in for a count of 3 and out of your mouth for a count of 3. Do this 3 times.
– Take a walk. Get up from your station / desk if you are working or out of the house if you need to, and go for a short walk. While walking focus on what your surrounding are, not what is stressing you out.
– Write. Pick up a gratitude journal and use it daily. Then if you are stressed or not having a great day, pick it up and read it.
– Read. Be sure to read something not related to your stress. Maybe your favourite novel you have been meaning to read.
– Be mindful. Take in and focus on the surroundings around you using your 5 senses.
– Meditate. You do not need to mediate for hours to feel a bit of relief. If you practice mediation, try just a couple mins when you need it. It may be enough to keep you going.
– Do your hobby. If you have some time, take it to do something you actually enjoy. Hobbies include many things, so pick up where you left off even if it was years ago.
– Smile. Smiles are contagious so if you are around other people try saying hi and smiling. Or just smile at yourself in the mirror. You may be surprised by what happens.
– Snuggle with your pet (if you have one). Dogs and cats can bring your stress levels down, so I am sure your lizard will too. ?
